West's Green School Program

The Michigan Green Schools program was designed to help schools become more ecologically friendly and to educate students and the community about environmental responsibility. West has earned Green School status for the past four years and is hard at work on again reaching this goal.

For the 2012-2013 school year, the program lists five categories of activities promoting energy savings, recycling, environmental protection, and ecological awareness . For a school to receive Green Schools status it must participate in at least ten of these activities. Additional points can earn a school the "Emerald" or "Evergreen" designation. Last year West was awarded "Evergreen" status, the highest status available!

The West Eco Warriors is a new PTSA sponsored student group for all grades. We meet once a month to learn about the environment, what we can do to help sustain it and to work on projects for the Green Schools application.
