Welcome to Resource Room!

Hugger resource services are built on the philosophy that all students can learn. Identified special education students receive pull out instruction in the resource room and/or in class support from the resource teachers.  Language arts programs include but are not limited to the Language! program (grades 4 and 5) and Read Well(grades k-3).  Both programs incorporate phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency and accuracy, comprehension, and basic writing skills.  Step up to Writing is a program used to support student writing and to provide structure for thes tudents.. Math support is provided using the Everyday Math series (general education program) along with  games and activities that build the basic skills needed to be successful in math.  If more math support is needed, some students use an alternative math program called VMath program.  The resource teachers work collaboratively with the general education teachers and ancillary staff (i.e. speech and language clinician, occupational therapist, physical therapist) to provide the best possible support for each student.

The 2018-2019 brings some staffing changes to the Hugger Resource Dept.  This year there will be 1 full time teacher and 2 half time teachersworking with identified students.    Carol Small, Lisa Hall, and Amy Burwinkle bring many years experience in working wtih students, with a variety of needs, both in Rochester and in districts throughout the country.
