Cara Lougheed, Stoney Creek English and history teacher, was selected as the 2019-20 Michigan Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Department of Education. She was first named one of 10 Regional Teachers of the Year, qualifying her as a finalist. In her new role, Lougheed represents 90,000 teachers and will serve on the Michigan Teacher Leadership Advisory Council to advocate for students and influence education policies. “Hopefully this means I can represent my friends and teachers across the state. I want to uplift the profession,” said Lougheed.
