Registration

Registration and payment can be made online via the digital payment system, or in person at the RCS Curriculum office at 52585 Dequindre Road. After June 11, in person registration will also be held at VanHoosen Middle School, the Thursday morning before Session 2 and 3 begin.

Session 1 registration: March 18 - June 6. Session 2 registration is from April 15 - June 26, Session 3 registration is from April 15 - July 9.

There is a $15 processing fee for refunds prior to the first day of class. THERE ARE NO REFUNDS ON OR AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.

Grades

Any student registering for SLP in an attempt to improve a grade from a previous course must enroll in the exact same course. The student’s high school transcript will show that the student has taken the course twice and both grades will remain on the transcript, but only the higher grade will count toward the GPA. Students can only replace a G or H grade with a G or H. Students cannot substitute general courses for honors or AP courses to improve a grade. Honors and AP courses are not offered during SLP.

SESSION 3 STUDENTS

Credit Advancement Students

You do not need to come to Van Hoosen Middle School on July 12^th. You will need to check your email between 9-1 pm that day. Your mentor teacher will send you a detailed explanation of the course expectations, login information, and final exam requirements. You will need to email the mentor teacher back in order for your class to be opened. By responding to their email you acknowledge and accept the terms of the course. These terms include completing the class on time, not plagiarizing or using AI, and attending the final exam in person on July 25^th between 9 AM and 1 PM at Adams High School.

Credit Recovery/ Credit Improvement Students

Students need to bring a chromebook and a pen to Van Hoosen Middle School at 12pm on July 12^th. You will be given your login for the course, a handout with a detailed explanation of expectations, and will take a prescriptive test. This test is unique to Credit Recovery and Credit Improvement students only and your mentor teacher will be able to explain more when you attend. A chromebook is required for testing and students should expect to test in the Media Center for around 45 minutes. Parents do not need to attend but can wait outside if their student needs transportation. After the exam, students will be able to continue with their class at home. Students must take attend the final exam at Adams High School on July 25^h between 9 AM and 1 PM.

Note: For students taking a math course, please also bring a pen or pencil, a notepad and a calculator.

SAT Courses

SAT Reading, Math and Science Courses are now available in SLP. These 3 days courses will prepare your student for the SAT, and are taught by RCS English, Math and Science teachers. There will be a focus on general test-taking skills, content focused questions and tips, and practice examinations. Students will be exposed to the important tools that build confidence and awareness with the reading, math or science portions of the SAT, and will be provided with feedback to increase success.

Summer Music Theatre provides Rochester area students a safe and fun environment to explore their passion for theatre.

Summer Music Theatre, also called SMT, continues to be an annual tradition for the Rochester area community. Started in 1973 at Adams High School, SMT is now managed through the Summer Learning Program of the Rochester Community Schools and is a community wide education offering.

Come celebrate SMT's 50th anniversary with us! This season, join us for our production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Show dates are July 17,18,19,20, at 7p.m. and July 21 at 2p.m. Ticket information will be available in mid June. All performances will take place at Adams H.S.

What grades can attend?

Students from ANY school not just RCS,entering grades 7-12, including Class of 2024 graduates, may be a part of the SMT cast. Students in younger grades that have been a part of SMT in the past MAY register also. SMT is for serious theatre performers and students focused on improving their acting, singing and dancing skills. SMT does not operate as a daycare. We do have our older students mentor and provide strong role models to our younger actors. Students work toward a final 5 performances in 6 very short weeks. Students should be willing to be a part of this rich tradition and self- motivated during down time.

How do I become a part of SMT?

Students wishing to act in SMT will need to register with the Summer Learning Program prior to auditions. SMT begins with auditions on June 12 and runs until July 21. Depending on their part, students will rehearse 3-5 days a week from 9a.m.-1p.m. most days,with tech and performance weeks going later. The tuition for SMT is $375 for Rochester Area Residents and $475 for non-residents.
