RCS and Durham School Services have implemented strict protocols to mitigate transmission of COVID-19. Drivers will wear facial coverings regardless of their vaccination status. They will also wear proper personal protective equipment while cleaning and sanitizing buses. All high-touch surfaces will be cleaned between each bus run (such as hand rails and seat back corners). Electrostatic wands will be used to disinfect the buses after the morning and afternoon runs. No cleaning or disinfecting will be performed with students on the bus. For safety reasons, drivers may need to lower their masks temporarily while operating the vehicle if the mask presents a safety hazard. Drivers will wear masks during loading and unloading of students.
Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance of the bus for each student's use. Upon boarding the bus please wear a facial covering. Like always, Kindergarten students will sit near the front of the bus.
In accordance with CDC mandates, all passengers (students K-12) riding the bus must wear face coverings (masks) during the bus ride. In addition, hand sanitizer is recommended when entering the bus. There will be sanitizer located just inside the entrance door of the bus, on the left.
Bus Drivers and bus aides will also wear facial coverings (masks) regardless of vaccination status. The driver may lower his/her mask while driving if wearing it becomes a hinderance to the safe operation of the bus.
Drivers will be attempting to keep fresh air flowing inside the bus, even in cold weather. You may see roof hatches open even during cold weather. Also, the driver will open some windows slightly to aid in the ventilation.
As mentioned above, the high touch areas will be cleaned after each bus run. Additionally, each bus will be disinfected using electro-static sprayers at the end of both the morning and afternoon routes.
The buses will also be cleaned during and after field trips.
