RCS and Durham School Services have implemented strict protocols to mitigate transmission of COVID-19. Drivers will wear facial coverings. They will also wear proper personal protective equipment while cleaning and sanitizing buses. All high-touch surfaces will be cleaned between each bus run. Electrostatic wands will be used following the morning runs and again following the afternoon bus runs. No cleaning or disinfecting will be performed with students on the bus. Drivers will leave the first two seats open if possible. For cautionary purposes, drivers may need to lower their mask temporarily while operating the vehicle if the mask presents a safety hazard.
Students will: use hand sanitizer upon boarding the bus; wear a facial covering; sit in an assigned seat; sit with family members when applicable; exit the bus after being dismissed row by row; and unload from front to back during arrivals at school buildings. Kindergarten students will sit near the front of the bus and older siblings will be grouped with them.
All students K-12 riding the bus must wear face coverings (masks) during the bus ride. In addition, students are required to use hand sanitizer when entering the bus. There will be sanitizer provided at the entrance door of the bus. Drivers have been directed to create permanent seats assignments. This is for the purpose of contract tracing. When possible the driver will keep the front row or rows empty to provide spacing.
Drivers will be attempting to keep fresh air flowing inside the bus, even in cold weather. You may see roof hatches open even during cold weather. Also, the driver will open some windows slightly to aid in the ventilation.
As mentioned above, the buses will be cleaned after each school run, morning and afternoon. Additionally, after all students have been transported in the morning, the buses will be cleaned again using electro-static sprayers. The procedure will repeat for the afternoon.
The buses will also be cleaned during and after field trips.
Again, as mentioned above, the answer is Yes, Each bus driver has been directed to create a seating chart for each bus run. The purpose is to assist with "contact tracing" in the event someone is exposed to the Coronavirus. It is very important for each rider to cooperate with the driver and use the same seat each time they ride the bus. An attempt will be made to keep the first two rows of seats open. This will aid in keeping distance from the driver.
As of March 01, 2021 when all students are back to in-person learning full time, new seating charts will have to be created. This may take the driver several days to establish the charts once ridership resumes. Please be patient and help the driver to maintain assigned seating.
