SMART Interactive Flat Panel (IFP)
A SMART Interactive Flat Panel (IFP) is a high-resolution touchscreen display designed for classroom and collaborative environments. It allows users to interact directly with digital content using touch or digital pens. This technology supports our vision at Rochester Community Schools by ensuring educators have the tools needed for connected, collaborative and engaging learning environments.
How does the SMART IFP work?
SMART IFPs feature integrated software like SMART Ink and Lumio, enabling real-time annotation, interactive lessons, and multi-user collaboration. With built-in speakers, wireless screen sharing, and seamless integration with laptops or classroom devices, SMART IFPs enhance engagement, support various learning styles, and promote active participation in both in-person and hybrid settings.
How is using a SMART IFP different than casting to a television?
Using a SMART Interactive Flat Panel (IFP) is fundamentally different from casting to a television. A SMART IFP is a fully interactive touchscreen that allows teachers and students to write, draw, manipulate content, and engage in lessons directly on the screen using either touch or digital pens. It includes built-in educational tools like SMART Ink for annotation and software like Lumio for interactive lessons, formative assessment, and collaborative activities. Multiple users can interact with the panel at once, making it ideal for hands-on learning and engagement.
In contrast, casting to a television is a passive experience. The TV acts only as a display—there’s no touchscreen functionality or direct interaction. Any control or content manipulation must happen from a separate device, like a laptop or tablet. While casting can be useful for simply displaying videos or slideshows, it doesn’t support real-time collaboration, annotation, or the deeper interactive experiences that a SMART IFP is designed to provide in a classroom setting.
