Google Meet
Google Meet is a secure video-conferencing platform designed for collaboration in classrooms and professional environments. It enables students, educators, and staff to connect in real time through video, audio, chat, and screen sharing. This technology supports our vision at Rochester Community Schools by providing flexible tools that strengthen communication, foster collaboration, and ensure learning opportunities extend beyond the walls of the classroom.
How does RCS use Google Meet?
Google Meet helps our students, families, and staff stay connected. Teachers use it to hold parent-teacher conferences or virtual meetings, host classes with content area experts, and much more. Staff also use Google Meet for team collaboration and professional learning. This tool makes it easy for our school community to communicate and learn together—anytime, anywhere.
Transitioning from Zoom to Google Meet
Rochester Community Schools is moving from Zoom to Google Meet as our primary video-conferencing tool. Families and staff can be assured that this will be a smooth transition — Google Meet works in very similar ways to Zoom. Both allow you to join meetings with a simple link, see and hear participants through video and audio, share your screen, and use chat to ask questions or share ideas.
The difference is that Google Meet is built right into the tools we already use every day, like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Classroom, making it easier for students, families, and staff to stay connected without needing a separate app or account.
As part of this transition, we will continue to expand resources, step-by-step guides, and frequently asked questions to help families and staff feel confident using Google Meet.
