Return to School Roadmap and Updates: In-Person Instruction and RCS Virtual Campus

RCS learning options include in-person instruction or RCS virtual campus
When the 2020-21 school year resumes, families living within the greater Rochester area will have two learning options to consider for their students. They include:

  • IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION if our region remains in phase 4 or above as defined in the MI Safe Schools Roadmap. Risk mitigation is based on science and data, which focuses on personal protective equipment, hygiene, spacing and movement. REMINDER: If you are a current RCS student - no further action is required.
  • RCS VIRTUAL CAMPUS offering full-time online instruction. This is a joint learning partnership that includes the child, the family, and the RCS teaching team. Families can select a semester (6-12), trimester (K-5), or yearlong commitment. Registration is CLOSED.
    • If you filled out the form to enroll your child in the RCS Virtual Campus, you will be receiving some information early this week. Questions regarding RCS Virtual Campus should be directed to rcsvirtual@rochester.k12.mi.us. Please include your student’s name and contact email.
Whether families choose in-person instruction or the RCS Virtual Campus, students will be taught by highly skilled, caring RCS teachers and receive the same world-class instruction and academic credit that our community has come to expect. Part-time options are not available at this time. To enhance learning in any setting, the district is moving to a 1-to-1 technology model so all students have access to a device.

In-person learning may require a shift to remote learning if there is a resurgence of COVID-19. Remote learning in the 2020-21 school year will have more rigorous requirements and more robust academic instruction than the stopgap measures put in place in March 2020.

Superintendent's Spotlight

For the past seven years, I have been honored to serve as the superintendent for Rochester Community Schools. During that time, we have worked together as a community to create something bigger than ourselves. Together, we built a culture that promotes love, belonging, hope, and inspiration. Our passion for this organization and the children that we serve is a great motivator, even during the most difficult circumstances. We wish you all a summer filled with happiness and joy and thank you for your continued support.
