8th Grade Language Arts

March,  2018

Updated on 3/20/18

Parents, the best way to get a hold of me is by email. My email is dmessina@rochester.k12.mi.us. Please feel free to email with any questions, comments or concerns.

Students are currently working on the Author in April book selection titled The Scourge by Jennifer Nielsen.  They are in literature circles, and each student gets a different "role" each day that asks them to do something with the text they have read (such as summarize, connect, identify, and analyze).  We should wrap this up by March 29th.  Students should have 8 total entries.

The agenda is written on the board daily, and if you are absent it is your responsibility to make up the work in a timely manner.

SUPPLIES: All students should have:

Composition notebook

Pens or pencils

glue sticks

dry erase markers

*Any kleenex or hand santizer would be added bonuses to the classroom environment.

ONLINE TEXT IS AVAILABLE! Go to http://my.hrw.com. User name = westla8 password = westla8

This website will not be updated daily, rather I will recap what has been done, and what to expect in the future. If you are absent, you may email me during the school day.

Please keep in mind that I have 4 classes of English/Language Arts. Papers and assignments will be graded in a timely manner, but students should not expect to get work back for at least a week, sometimes 3 depending on the length of the assignment. My RCS is a great tool to check on missing assignments, information regarding that is available on the district web page.

Homework is due the next day, or when a specific date has been given.  Also, please encourage students to inquire about assignments when they are absent.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Messina
