2012-2013

West Middle School in conjunction with PTA Council will again be involved in the Meals on Wheels Program through the OPC.  This is a wonderful and rewarding experience for all who participate. The Rochester Schools have been assigned the Wednesday route covering the Crooks Rd. and Hamlin Rd. area (Route #9).

All the schools work as a team through the PTA council to cover the calendar year. With all the schools involved, your school will provide delivery service 3 times a year.

How does it work?

  • Each school is scheduled a particular Wednesday to deliver meals. (See attached calendar.)
  • Each school will seek individuals who are interested in participating in this program. You will then sign them up for your school's designated days.
  • Please notify me of the names and phone numbers of the drivers. (OPC requires phone numbers to contact the drivers to remind them of their dates. OPC does not use email addresses.)
  • OPC will call the volunteers the Monday before their delivery date to remind them and answer any questions.
  • On their assigned day, volunteers will:

Driver(s) will:

  1. Arrive at the OPC at 11:15am. Follow the signs to the Meals on Wheels parking lot in the back of the building.
  2. Receive 2 coolers with 5-10 meals to be delivered and a map of the route.
  3. Deliver the meals using their own vehicle.
  4. Return the coolers to OPC.

This process will take about an hour.

Our West dates for this school year are as follows:

  • January 16th, 2013
  • February 27th, 2013
  • August 21st, 2013

For a complete list of all the Rochester schools dates please vist the PTA Council link below.  The OPC is always looking for substitutes throughout the year as well. See the attached sign up sheet for additional dates if you are interested.  Please note that there are dates during school breaks and during the summer.  Some people have really enjoyed taking their children with them to deliver meals.  The seniors especially enjoy seeing the children, so consider signing up for these dates if you would like your kids to join in this worthwhile experience.

This is a terrific program and a wonderful opportunity for all of us to make a difference in a deserving senior's life as well as a great way to strengthen our ties to our local community.
