GIRLS GOLF RUNNER-UP AT MHSAA DIV. I STATE FINALS

The Stoney Creek Girls Golf team particiated in the MHSAA State Tournament this past weekend at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing.  The field for this 2-day tournament consisted of the top 15 teams in the state and was determined by the team's play at the regional Tournament the week prior - which was won by the girls.

After the first day, with a team score of 362, the girls were in 5th Place overall and with loming weather on the horizon for day 2, the girls left knowing they had to score better as a team to compete for a State Title. Even though the weather was not ideal for playing conditions the entire team rebounded and shot a 348 on day 2 to leap three other teams and secure 2nd Place for the entire tournament.  This marks the 3rd time in the past 4 years that the girls team has placed 2nd at the Division I State Tournament.

In addition to this accomplishment, the team had three of their golfers finish in the top 20 overall: Chloe Guschewski (14th), Lauren Ingle (15th) and Bailey Compton (19th).  Other memebers of the team were Annica Steen, Kelsee Zajac and Lindsay Cairns.  Congrations to Coach Tony Lafferty and the entire team on their perseverance, focus and determination throughout the season and this past weekend.

Eric Fisher - Stoney Creek Graduate 1st Pick in NFL Draft

On Thursday April 25, 2013, Stoney Creek Graduate ERIC FISHER was selected as the 1st Overall Pick in the NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs Football Organization. Thursday marked the culmination of several years of hard work by Eric to get himself ready for the NFL.  Not only did he excel beyond all expectations - but through hardwork he elevated his stock in the draft from being on a few teams radar to that of the 1st pick overall within a matter of a few months.

In the short time that Stoney Creek High School has been in existance, it is quite humbling to realize that a student athlete of this status once walked the halls of this school. Just to know that Eric was drafted, knowing an opportunity at the NFL level was afforded him was the best a school or community could ask for.  Eric's stock vaulted up the draft board to the point of being projected to be a 1st round pick, then as the #1 pick overall.  After an exciting nine minutes, of waiting for the announcement from the Kansas City Cheifs, Eric now moves on to the next stage of his career knowing that he is one of a very few individuals that can say they were the #1 Overall Pick of any NFL draft and for this community to share in the fact that many of those opportunities were started on the high school fields and gymnasiums of Stoney Creek High School, it is still quite remarkable.

This is a great moment of recognition for the school, the entire staff, the coaches and teachers that had the opportunity to be a part of Eric's daily routine and the Rochester Community School District.  This may be a once in a lifetime event and it is something that the entire community is very proud of and will relish for many years to come.

Eric was always a great representative of what a high school student/athlete should be known for during his years of high school and what has molded him as a great person early in life has continued to do so as he continued to better himself at the next challenge that life is bring him.
