Stoney Creek Football Wins Home Opener
Varsity Football team wins their home opener 28-20 against Rochester Adams on Friday night! The win marks the first time in the brief history of the school that the Varsity Football team has defeat a team from Rochester Adams.
Entering the evening, Adams favored by 4 touchdowns and having won the previous 5 meeting between the schools, including a 17-7 playoff win to end the season for the Cougars last year, appeared to be the team to beat. Early in the evening it appear as though Adams would increase their lead on this crosstown series to 6-0. Having weathered the first quarter pressure from Adams, the Cougars began to turn the flow of the game in their direction and entered halftime down 20-7.
In the second half, the team and coaches continued to push things in their favor. Late in the 3rd quarter, the defense forced a fumble on a goal line stance and used that swing in momentum to take the lead for good late into the 4th quarter. With each team trading opportunities late in the game, the win came down to a fourth down and eight call, which Stoney Creek was able to turn into a 1st down and allowed them to run out the clock to their first win against an Adams team.
