Ms. East''s Story

Skiing in Patagonia, Argentina- August 2007

I am happy to say that this is my 22nd year in Rochester High School and I'm still loving every minute of it! I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Teaching Spanish/English from Eastern Michigan University in 1993.  I then earned my Master of Arts Degree (Bilingual/Bicultural Education) at Wayne State University in 2000, after completing an internship at the University of Granada in southern Spain. To keep current and fluent, I have spent various summers abroad in Spain, and have traveled extensively in Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Perú, Argentina, France, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Ireland, England, Croatia, and Montenegro, Eastern Europe and Australia.  These travels enlighten me about the history and people of the world and inspire me to keep learning.  In addition to my own trips, I have arranged study abroad opportunities for students, and have taken over 250 students abroad throughout my years at RHS.  In April, 2016 I will be leading another group to explore Spain.  I hope to continue inspiring young adults to learn about the world, and to experience the Spanish culture and language first-hand.
