PARENT APP OF THE MONTH

Harvard Researcher Ron Ritchhart has created 9 Apps parents can use to foster a culture of thinking at home.

Focus on the Learning over the Work
Learning is the goal of an assignment. Take a moment to ask your child what the purpose of each homework assignment is; what do they think the teacher wants them to learn and get better at as a result. Then monitor the learning not the work.

Ask Questions such as...

  • As a result of this homework, what did you learn?
  • What do you think your teacher wanted you to learn from this assignment?
  • What is the "take away" from doing this homework?
  • Based on this homework, what questions will you ask your teacher tomorrow in class?
  • After doing this homework, do you have a better understanding of the concept?
