harmanjit celebration

Advanced ESL

nina celebration

Students and staff gather to celebrate and honor the ESL students for completing another semester of ESL courses with awards and certificates. Following a small formal ceremony, the attendees celebrated with music and a potluck dinner created from our student's family recipes and traditional fare. Many of our students will move into the next level of ESL instruction, and we say goodbye to a handful of students who have graduated out of the program!

Citizenship Workshop 2017

In collaboration with the Rochester Hills Public Library, RACE held it's first Citizenship Workshop for all RACE English as a Second Language students. Our three ESL teachers welcomed Annette Similuk as she presented information and resources available for our immigrant students to become successful citizens of the United States of America. Good Luck to everyone who attended, and a big thank you to Annette and the Rochester Hills Public Library!

This past March, the Michigan Talent Investment Agency Department of Talent & Economic Development asked our ESL teachers: Nina Ahmady and Harmanjit Kaur to present at the Michigan Adult Education and Training Conference (MAETC), held this year at the Westin Cadillac Hotel in Detroit Michigan.

ESL Presentation 2017a

ESL Presentation 2017b

This presentation focused on the program management systems which contributed to the RACE ESL program exceeding 5 out of 6 ESL performance benchmarks in the 2015-16 school year. Topics covered in this presentation included: the RACE ESL mission statement, curriculum development and resources, staffing, scheduling, assessment, climate & culture, future goals and challenges in meeting WIOA requirements, and a “sharing out” of other ideas from attendees.  We thank the State and MAETC for recognizing our success and the talents of these two ESL instructors.  Grat Job Ladies!

April 2018

Yan “Elaine” H. was nominated by her ESL instructor Ms. Cambron. Elaine is an excellent student; she is dedicated to learning English. While in class, Elaine asks great questions and also helps her classmates. Furthermore, her attendance is nearly perfect!
