Science Alive! comes to UHills once again

University Hills students had the opportunity to experience many kinds of animals that they would not normally encounter. Each visit was supervised by a biologist from Science Alive! where students were taught basic information about the animals, encouraged to make inquiries about the animals and had an opportunity to hold or touch each animal. The biologists also shared information about these animals in their natural habitats, threats or opportunities for their populations and allowed each student to think about the wider world and their impact on it through consumer and legislative choices.

Opportunity for Drop Everything And Read!

Recent technology snafus gave media students the wonderful opportunity to Drop Everything And Read! During their media time, they selected books that they wanted to read and found comfy, cozy spots to read with a friend. This event was such a hit, the students are asking for it to become a regular media reward event!

Spirit Council Creates Birthday Bags!

University Hills Spirit Council organized donations for birthday bags to be distributed through Lighthouse of Oakland County. These third through fifth grade students then gathered to create nearly 150 bags that basically contain a "birthday party in a bag". They contained cake mix, frosting, birthday cake candles, small favors and balloons. The students' concern being that there are families that are unable to celebrate a child's birthday due to financial stressors on the family budget. Once again the University Hills students step out into the community to provide service and show what outstanding citizens they are growing to become.
