BYOD - Bring Your Own Device Initiative

RCS is committed to providing students and staff with a world-class learning environment in which every student has access to learning experiences and instruction that are collaborative, creative, and flexible. Having constant access to a device will allow classrooms to increase learning opportunities and support collaboration through technology. BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is an instructional technology initiative where high school students bring a personally owned device to school to support and enhance learning.

We will be starting with a phased BYOD rollout in AP Government, AP Capstone, and blended classes for the first semester of the 2018/19 school year. We will have devices available to support students as we transition to BYOD and monitor the rollout.

The Curriculum Department is interested in moving more courses, and eventually entire high schools, to a BYOD format, exactly as is expected at the college level. Though the bond has helped tremendously to improve classroom technology, the District’s Strategic Plan calls for a sustainable business model. The cost of purchasing and maintaining computers for every student is not a sustainable model. For this reason, many other districts in the area have also started a BYOD program.
