Michigan Exemplary

  Rochester Physical Education

is an

Michigan Exemplary

For the past five years, the physical education staff, under the supervision of Dr. Ray Allen, a consultant from Central Michigan University, has developed and implemented an exemplary curriculum that equips the students with the knowledge, skills, fitness capacities and affective traits to stay "fit for life." Aligned with state and national standards, the curriculum integrates measurable goals with an embedded assessment framework to facilitate program evaluation and improvement, as well as reporting individual student progress.

Rochester’s curriculum implementation, assessment and professional development plan has enabled them to be eligible for the Governor’s Council Exemplary Physical Fitness Award Program. As part of its mission to encourage citizens to improve their health through physical activity, the Governor’s Council presents awards annually to individuals, schools, organizations and communities "who put forth exceptional efforts to encourage and equip others to live a more physically active lifestyle." The Awards Ladder program is a mechanism by which physical education programs across the state can receive recognition for meeting specific implementation criteria. Rochester physical education staff has recieved the Level 8 Award, having provided evidence that the curriculum has been implemented as intended. This is an honor, which is held by only a few other districts.  Rochester Community Schools Physical Education program is now an exelemary Michigan program!  Go Rochester!!!!!!
