Pictures with the Principal

Welcome to Delta Kelly School!

Dear Delta Kelly Parents/Guardians,

I am extremely proud to be Delta Kelly's principal and lead learner. My entire life has been dedicated to the success of children. I was a para educator for special education children before I began my teaching career in Van Dyke Public Schools. There I taught 1st and 3rd grade at the elementary level and 8th grade English at the middle school. My move to the principal level took place in the year 2000, and I have been a principal at two elementary schools since then. As a teacher and a principal I have been a leader and team member on committees that relate to every area of education and success of children.

My college career began with an Associate Degree in Recreation Leadership at Macomb Community College. At Wayne State University I earned a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education, and at Saginaw State University I earned a Master of Education Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision at the elementary level. I hold an Administrator Certificate from the State of Michigan in Elementary and Secondary Administration with a Specialty Endorsement in Building Level Leadership and Improvement.

Delta Kelly opened in the fall of 2002 as the thirteenth elementary school in the Rochester Community School District. It is located at the intersection of Gunn and Adams Roads in Oakland Township, Michigan and serves kindergarten through fifth grade students. Delta Kelly delivers a rigorous curriculum aligned with the Michigan Curriculum Framework and state level content standards and expectations. Curriculum is regularly reviewed and modified to ensure that it is current and relevant to our student population. In addition to classroom instruction in language arts, math, social studies, science and health, students attend weekly art, music, physical education and media classes taught by teachers specially certified in these curricular areas. A full range of special education services are also provided to all students who qualify for these services.

Student achievement is our top priority at Delta Kelly and our staff is dedicated to providing a challenging and well-rounded, developmentally appropriate school experience for all students. Recent Michigan Educational Assessment Program test scores indicate that students are attaining nearly all standards and benchmarks of the Michigan Core Curriculum, and other student performance data shows that students are achieving at high levels in all curricular areas.

Delta Kelly welcomes parent involvement and the DK Parent Volunteer Office provides a home base for the many volunteer opportunities available at Delta Kelly. Parents are encouraged to be active in the classrooms and throughout the school and they are an integral part of the educational program.

The Delta Kelly staff is comprised of over forty professional educators, nearly all of whom hold masters degrees in their area of expertise. Approximately fifteen support staff members provide service in classroom assistance, maintenance, food service and administrative assistance. A number of our staff members have received recognition for excellence including the Rochester Community Schools Excellence in Education Award, Rochester's Teacher of the Year Award, and Wal-Mart's Teacher of the Year Award.

Prospective parents and students are eagerly welcomed at Delta Kelly and encouraged to visit and tour the school. Please feel free to contact our school office for further information.

Sincerely,

Sharon Bienkowski
