We are pleased to announce that Rochester Community Schools will be offering Chinese 1 beginning in the 2012-13 school year at all three of our comprehensive high schools. The State of Michigan has recognized the need for all students beginning with the class of 2016 to have a minimum of two years of a world language due to the global implications. Speakers of Chinese have a distinct advantage in the global economic market because of the sheer number of native Chinese speakers there are in the world. Rochester Community Schools is proud to be on the cutting edge by offering this opportunity to our students. Each year the District will add the next level of Chinese, with the goal of having Advanced Placement Chinese offered in the 2016-17 school year.

In anticipation of being able to offer Chinese 1, the district allowed students to register for Chinese when making their course selections in the spring. There will be two sections of Chinese 1 at Adams High School and 1 section each at Rochester High School and Stoney Creek High School. If you are interested in this opportunity for your incoming 9th , 10th , or 11th grade student and they have not already registered for Chinese, please contact your student's high school counselor or, after June 15, the assistant principal: Adams High School, Mr. Chuck May; Rochester High School, Ms. Lisa Newman; Stoney Creek High School; Mr. John Kelley.
